AMARULA STRIKES GOLD AT THE SPIRITS BUSINESS GLOBAL SPIRITS MASTERS AWARDS

The world’s favourite marula-based cream liqueur, Amarula, has struck gold at this year’s The Spirits Business Global Spirits Masters Awards. Amarula entered its Cream Liqueur, Ethiopian Coffee Cream Liqueur (coming to South Africa soon), Raspberry, Chocolate and African Baobab Cream Liqueur and Vanilla Spice Cream Liqueur variants, winning a Gold Award for each.

Hosted by the renowned publication, The Spirits Business, the Liqueur Masters category of the Global Spirits Masters Awards finds and rewards the finest spirits brands on the world stage. The entries are assessed by an expert panel of leading, independent spirits specialists, judged in a blind tasting.

Entries are marked on taste, appearance, aroma, palate and overall balance. “We are so honoured to have been awarded these prestigious medals. We faced increased competition this year, with over 100 entrants from all over the world in these awards. To receive Gold for each of our entries is even more pleasing, as it means that our entries scored highly across the board,” says Charmelle Conning, Amarula Global Brand Lead.

The Spirits Business noted that “South African drinks group Distell secured four Golds in this flight, including one for its ‘complex and aromatic’ Amarula Raspberry, Chocolate and African Baobab Cream Liqueur and another for its Amarula Vanilla Spice Cream Liqueur, praised for having notes of cinnamon and ‘Christmas cake’.

“ The Amarula range is a collection of distinctive marula-based cream liqueurs, with a truly unique and exotic taste. Each bottle carries in it the Spirit of Africa, that can be enjoyed anywhere in the world, supported by an interesting and rich legacy and origin. Amarula is made from marula spirit, created from the delicious marula fruit grown only in sub-equatorial Africa. This is then blended with velvety cream to make the smooth and distinctive taste it has become known for.

The Original Cream Liqueur is fresh, smooth and well-rounded, with a full creamy taste and hints of the exotic marula fruit. The Ethiopian Coffee variant celebrates the birthplace of the coffee beans with a rich and robust mocha toffee finish, while the Raspberry, Chocolate and African Baobab variant has a creamy white chocolate flavour, with notes of raspberry and citrus-infused baobab extract, reminiscent of fresh melon and ripe banana.

Amarula Vanilla Spice, meanwhile, introduces a more spicy profile, with a ginger and Madagascan vanilla flavour In addition to these variants, which were entered into this year’s awards, Amarula has more recently introduced a Vegan Cream Liqueur variant to its range.
